Many people are starting to explore other forms of medicine, other than traditional medicine. This is also true in veterinary medicine. Telford Veterinary Hospital is excited to be able to offer holistic and traditional medicine through our partner, Dr. Karen Collins, VMD.

Dr. Karen Collins is a Pennsylvania native, growing up in Hazleton, then moving to Bethlehem, where she graduated with high honors from Moravian College.  She received her veterinary degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1985, thus fulfilling a life-long dream. Although she respects all aspects of medicine, her passion is holistic care. She is a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and Herbalist, both earned at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine in Florida, under the mentorship of Dr. Huisheng Xie, an internationally respected teacher, author and practitioner of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Collins continues to pursue educational and professional growth opportunities in both conventional and holistic veterinary medicine.  Her practice is devoted to treating dogs and cats using Traditional Chinese Medicine, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, nutritional support and other aspects of holistic care.

Dr. Collins treasures the relationships she builds with her animal patients and the people who care for them. Compassion and communication are vital to her practice of veterinary medicine. To learn more about her practice visit her website.

Acupuncture has been shown to help pets with pain, osteoarthritis, vomiting, cancer pain, endocrine disorders, and much more. It helps pets even more than you and I might realize so be sure to discuss your pet’s case with your veterinarian to see whether or not acupuncture might be helpful! You may want to consider adding acupuncture to keep your pet as active and healthy as possible.
